Peel and Stick Wallpaper, Yea or Nay?

The popularity of peel and stick wallpaper has surged in recent years. Let's explore the touted benefits and dig in a little deeper. Love where you live with educated choices.

The Allure of Peel and Stick Wallpaper

  1. Ease of Installation: Peel and stick wallpaper is relatively easy to install compared to traditional wallpaper. With no need for messy glue or water, just peel off the backing and stick it onto the wall.

    1. Easier said than done! No glue or water is a plus but what about pattern matching, hanging is straight, inside corners, outside corners, windows, doors, uneven walls, and other tricky spots?

Professional installers have the skills and know the tricks for great stress-free wallpaper projects.

  1. Damage-Free Removal: One of the biggest advantages of peel and stick wallpaper, especially for renters, is that it can be removed without damaging the walls. Traditional wallpaper removal can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, but it doesn't have to be with the right prep.

    1. Removing peel and stick wallpaper from textured walls can be more challenging compared to smooth surfaces. The adhesive may adhere more strongly to the texture, making removal a labor-intensive process.

  1. Temporary Decor Solution: Peel and stick wallpaper is perfect for temporary or transitional spaces. Great option when you want to change up the look of a room without a long-term commitment, peel and stick wallpaper allows you to transform your space quickly and easily.

    1. YES! Peel and stick is the go to for a short-term style change.

  2. Cost-Effective: While the upfront cost of peel and stick wallpaper may be slightly higher than traditional wallpaper.

    1. Not really. The cost per square foot of peel and stick wallpaper is often higher than traditional wallpaper. Additionally, high-quality peel and stick wallpaper may come with a premium price tag.

  3. Wide Range of Applications: Peel and stick wallpaper isn't just for walls! It can also be used to add visual interest to the back of a bookcase, stair risers, and more. This versatility allows you to get creative and customize your space in unique ways.

    1. Stick is anywhere, that's hard to argue with. Keep in mind the surface, durability, and cost.

    2. Peel and stick wallpaper may not be suitable for all environments, particularly those with extreme temperature fluctuations or high humidity levels such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, or kitchen areas. In such conditions, the adhesive may weaken, leading to issues with adhesion and longevity.

My rebuttals to the benefits may sound like I am against the use of peel and stick wallpaper. I am not! Really! I have it in my own home and installed it for others. My input is meant only to educate. In the excitement of redoing a space peel and stick wallpaper sounds like a way to get to the end result faster and with less stress. In reality it doesn't matter if it is peel and stick or traditional pasted wallpaper, the most important concerns are the same: proper surface preparation and correct installation.
